Kent Jespersen Chairman of the Board
Kent has served as Chairman of the Board and a director of Seven Generations since its inception. Chair and Chief Executive Officer of LaJolla Resources International Ltd. since 1999, Kent has held senior executive positions with NOVA Corporation of Alberta, Foothills Pipe Lines Ltd., and Husky Oil Limited before assuming the presidency of Foothills Pipe Lines Ltd. and later, NOVA Gas International Ltd. At NOVA, he led the non-regulated energy services business, which included energy trading, marketing and all international activities. Kent is also a director of Axia NetMedia Corporation, and previously served as Chairman of the Board and a director of North American Oil Sands Corporation. Kent earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1969 and a Master of Science in Education in1970, both from the University of Oregon.
Marty Proctor President & Chief Executive Officer and Director
Marty was named President & Chief Executive Officer in July 2017, and was elected to the Board of Directors in May 2017. He joined Seven Generations in May 2014 as President and Chief Operating Officer. Marty has more than 30 years of experience in the oil and natural gas industry in Canada and internationally. Before 7G, Marty was Chief Operating Officer of Baytex Energy from January 2009 until May 2014. Prior to Baytex, he held executive roles as Senior Vice President responsible for upstream operations at Statoil Hydro Canada, Senior Vice President of North American Oil Sands Corporation and Vice President of Murphy Oil Company. Earlier in his career, Marty held technical and management positions at Maxx Petroleum, Central Resources (USA), BP Resources Canada and Husky Oil. His international work included assignments in Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Norway and the United States. Marty began his career in the energy industry working as a roughneck on drilling rigs in Alberta, British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories. A professional engineer and a member of APEGA, the Canadian Heavy Oil Association and the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Marty earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Alberta.
Kevin Brown Director
Kevin is Co-Chief Executive Officer and Director of ARC Financial Corp., and has been with ARC Financial Corp. since April 1989. Kevin joined the Seven Generations board in September 2010 and he represents the ARC Energy Funds on the boards of Unconventional Resources Canada, LP, Unconventional Resources, LLC, and Kanata Energy Group. Kevin earned a Master of Arts in Economics in 1984 and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1982, both from the University of Alberta.
Avik Dey Director
Avik Dey is Managing Director, Head of Natural Resources, at Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB). Prior to joining CPPIB, Avik was President & CEO of Remvest Energy Partners in Houston, USA. Previously, he was a Founder and Chief Financial Officer of Remora Energy, a private energy company. He has been active in the global energy sector since 1999 with roles across industry, private equity and investment banking. He has previously worked with a number of organizations including First Reserve, Deutsche Bank and Encana Corporation. Avik serves on the Board of Directors of Teine Energy, where he is chairman, plus the boards of Enactus Canada and the Young Professionals in Energy organization. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Calgary.
Harvey Doerr Director
Harvey retired in 2009 with over 28 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, including broad exposure to domestic and international exploration and production, heavy oil and oilsands, offshore, refining, retail marketing, acquisition and divestiture, strategic planning and government relations. He most recently served as an Executive Vice President for Murphy Oil Corporation, responsible for worldwide refining and marketing operations and strategic planning. Prior thereto, Harvey held various positions in the upstream oil and gas industry with Murphy Oil Corporation and affiliates, primarily in Canada. Since his retirement, Harvey has acted as a director for a number of private, public and not-for-profit entities. Harvey received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta (1981). Harvey is a Professional Engineer, has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School and has received the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Paul Hand Director
Paul joined 7G’s Board of Directors in March 2017 after retiring from RBC Capital Markets in January 2017 as a Managing Director. Paul had senior responsibility for RBC’s capital markets group and advised corporate clients in connection with a wide range of transactions. Paul joined RBC Capital Markets in 1974 and has spent more than 43 years in various investment business roles in the private client, equity capital markets, and institutional equity areas. He was previously the Head of Global Equity Trading for 11 years and was directly responsible for the firm’s North American and international equity trading. Paul earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1969 and a Master of Business Administration in 1973 from Queen’s University.
Dale Hohm Director
Dale joined the Seven Generations board in May 2014 and is chair of the audit and finance committee. Dale has been a Senior Advisor at Azimuth Capital Management since September 2014 and became Senior Finance and Compliance Officer in 2015. From March 2004 to July 2013, Dale was Chief Financial Officer of MEG Energy Corp. and served as a director of Lone Pine Resources Inc. from November 2011 to January 2014. From 2001 to 2004, Dale was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Enerflex Systems Ltd. Before entering the energy sector, Dale worked in the audit and assurance practice of Deloitte LLP, where he earned his Chartered Accountant designation. Dale earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta in 1980 and in July of 2016 he obtained his ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
W.J. (Bill) McAdam Director
Bill was President and Chief Executive Officer of Aux Sable in the United States and Canada from 2000 to year end 2013 when he retired from Aux Sable. Prior to joining Aux Sable, Bill held progressively more senior positions with Imperial Oil and Exxon Chemical from 1974 to 1994 in the Engineering, Refining, Fertilizer, Petrochemicals, Planning and Natural Gas Liquids businesses in Sarnia, Toronto, New York, Edmonton and Calgary. Bill began working with Aux Sable in 1995 during its development phase until 1998, and was President of Mapco Canada Energy Inc. from 1998 until 1999. He joined Aux Sable in late 1999 to lead the start-up and development of the Aux Sable business in conjunction with the construction and commissioning of the $3.5 billion Alliance pipeline/Aux Sable rich gas system in December, 2000. A director for Canexus Corporation, Bill received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Queen’s University in 1974 and a Master of Business Administration from McMaster University in 1980, and holds an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. Bill has served on several industry association boards over his career.
Kaush Rakhit Director
A founding director, Kaush has been the President of Rakhit Petroleum Consulting Ltd. since September 1990 and the President of Canadian Discovery Ltd. since December 2004. Kaush serves as a director of Matrix Solutions Inc., Canadian Discovery Ltd., and Petrofeed Inc. A professional geologist and an active member of APEGA, Kaush earned a Bachelor of Science in Earth Sciences from the University of Waterloo in 1983 and a Master of Science in Petroleum Hydrogeology from the University of Alberta in 1987.
Jacqueline (Jackie) Sheppard Director
Jackie is Chair of the board of directors of Emera Incorporated, a geographically diverse energy and services company that invests in electricity generation, transmission and distribution, as well as gas transmission and utility energy services. She is also a director of Cairn Energy PLC, a publicly traded UK-based international oil and gas producer. Jackie is a Founder and lead director of Black Swan Energy Inc., an Alberta upstream energy company that is private equity financed. She is a Founder and former director of Marsa Energy Inc., a private oil and gas corporation that went public in 2014 following Jackie’s tenure as a director. Jackie is the former Executive Vice President, Corporate and Legal of Talisman Energy Inc. and she served as Chair of the Research and Development Corporation of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, a Provincial Crown Corporation, until June 2014. Jackie has significant experience in strategic planning, business development, public markets and governance having held extensive roles as an executive in the oil and gas industry, and as a director of public, private and crown corporations. Jackie is a Rhodes Scholar, having received an Honors Jurisprudence, Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Oxford University (1979). She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland (1977) and a Bachelor of Laws degree (Honours) from McGill University (1981).
Jeff van Steenbergen Director
Jeff is a Co-Founder and the Managing Partner of Azimuth Capital Management, formerly KERN Energy Partners, having joined in 2001. Jeff is a director for Steelhead LNG Corp., Altex Energy Ltd., Cobalt International Energy L.P., Magma Global Ltd., Fairfield Energy Limited and Osum Oil Sands Corp. With more than 35 years of diverse Canadian and global energy sector experience, Jeff earned a Bachelor of Applied Science with honors in Civil Engineering from Queen’s University in 1977 and a Master of Business Administration in International Business and Finance from Dalhousie University in 1988. Further, Jeff participated in executive programs at Harvard, Stanford and INSEAD focused on strategy, finance and corporate governance. A professional engineer, Jeff is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia.
